Company

A type foundry that learned to write software.

Founded in Pune in 2016, ArtoMania Studio began by drawing calligraphy fonts for Hindi and Marathi. 10 years later those letterforms power a desktop application, a browser platform and integrations inside the world's most-used design tools.

Our story

“Indian scripts were treated as a localisation problem. We treated them as a design problem.”

Manoj Jaiswal, Founder

In 2016 a designer could choose from thousands of expressive Latin typefaces and, for Devanagari, a handful of system fonts. Wedding invitations, festival posters, shop signage and film titles for hundreds of millions of people were being set in the same three or four faces — or hand-lettered from scratch, every time.

ArtoMania Studio was incorporated that year to close the gap. We started by doing the slow work: drawing original calligraphy fonts for Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati under the AMS label, then building IndiaFont, a desktop application with Letter Variables — up to twelve hand-drawn alternates for every character — so designers could compose calligraphy rather than just type it.

IndiaFont has since been downloaded more than 400,000 times, and the AMS library has grown past 320 original fonts. But a desktop application only reaches people who install it. In 2025 we shipped Calligraphy Maker, a rendering engine that produces the same quality in a browser in under a second, and set ourselves a distribution goal: be present on every surface a designer already works on.

Today that engine runs inside Canva, Adobe Express, Adobe Creative Cloud, CorelDRAW, Android and Chrome, exposes a REST API, and speaks the Model Context Protocol so Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants can produce exact Indic calligraphy. Studio99 is the typography engine for Indian scripts behind all of it: one engine and one account for designers, developers and AI.

What we believe

Principles that shape every release

  • 01

    Scripts first, everything else second

Indian languages are not a localisation layer. Every product starts from the shape of the Devanagari and Gujarati letter and works outward.

  • 02

    Exact, not approximate

Our engines render from fonts, not from probability. When a designer types a name, the output is that name — spelled right, every time.

  • 03

Meet designers where they already work

We would rather ship inside Canva, CorelDRAW and Adobe Express than ask a designer to change tools. Distribution is a product decision.

  • 04

Made in India, built for the world

Headquartered in Pune, serving designers in India and abroad with local billing, local support hours and a global standard of craft.
